Tal día como hoy en 1995, comienza la masacre de Srebrenica. Más de 8000 personas de etnia bosnia musulmana fueron asesinadas durante la guerra de Bosnia bajo el mandato del general Ratko Mladic. Ocurrió en una zona considerada segura por las ONU ya que estaba bajo la protección de los cascos azules holandeses.

Supuestamente se buscaba eliminar a los varones, pero al final la masacre incluyó ancianos, mujeres y niños. Este hecho se considera el mayor asesinato masivo ocurrido en Europa desde la segunda guerra mundial.
